The ceiling of the retiring room for the Federal Council is decorated with four paintings representing landscapes along Switzerland’s borders, thus showing the government the limits of its authority.
The clock
One of the most exquisite presents ever given to Switzerland stands majestically in a corner of the retiring room: a porcelain clock made in Berlin and given to the Swiss nation by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1912.
Tapestry
The brightly coloured tapestry, which is in fact not original, lends the room a majestic air.
The Retiring Room for the Federal Council
This is the table where the voting slips are counted: the contents of the urns are emptied on to the table and the scrutineers then count the votes.
